Mövenpick BalaLand Resort Review – The Best Family Hotel in Hungary?

When you’re travelling with kids, the hotel often becomes the destination itself. After spending
two nights at Mövenpick BalaLand Resort on the shores of Lake Balaton, we completely
understood why so many families recommend it. We were looking for a place where the kids
could burn off energy while we could actually enjoy a slower pace, and BalaLand delivered on
both. From the moment we arrived until we checked out, there was always something
happening, and our kids were already asking if we could stay one more night.

A hotel inspired by Around the World in 80 Days

Mövenpick BalaLand isn’t just another family resort. The entire hotel is themed around Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days, and that adventurous atmosphere follows you throughout the property. Decorative details, activities and even the dining concept are inspired by travelling
around the globe, giving the resort a unique identity that makes it memorable from the very
first impression.

The incredible Indoor Fun Park at Mövenpick BalaLand Resort kept our kids entertained for hours. It’s one of the biggest reasons we’d happily come back.

The Indoor Fun Park Is Unlike Anything We’ve Seen

The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the incredible indoor Fun Park. We’ve visited many
family resorts over the years, but this one genuinely stands out. Instead of a simple playground,
the whole area feels like a giant adventure. Children can climb around a huge Egyptian pyramid,
explore Big Ben, cross the Golden Gate Bridge, discover a Wild West cowboy village and enjoy
countless climbing structures and slides.
The feature our kids talked about the most was the zeppelin suspended from the ceiling.
Yes, you can actually pedal it around the hall while floating above the playground! Watching
them cycling high above everyone else with huge smiles on their faces was one of those travel
moments we’ll remember for years.
Another big advantage is that you don’t actually have to stay at the hotel to experience the Fun
Park. Non-hotel guests can purchase a day ticket and enjoy it as well, making it a fantastic
option for families already holidaying around Lake Balaton.

Pools, slides and endless fun

The indoor water area connects perfectly with the Fun Park. There are family pools, children’s
pools and several slides, while the outdoor pools are perfect during the warmer months. Our
kids practically lived on the slides. Every few minutes they would run back up the stairs for ‘just
one more ride’, and somehow that turned into another hour. Safe to say they slept very well
each evening!

Around the world… one dinner at a time

One of Mövenpick BalaLand’s most original ideas is its rotating themed buffet. Every evening celebrates a different country’s cuisine, fitting perfectly with the hotel’s travel theme. During our stay we enjoyed Hungarian and African evenings. There were also plenty of familiar dishes, so
even picky eaters had lots of options. It made dinner feel like another activity rather than just a
meal.

Chocolate Hour at 3 PM

Every day at exactly 3:00 PM the hotel hosts Chocolate Hour. Tables suddenly fill with cakes,
desserts, chocolate treats and sweets, and children seem to magically appear from every corner
of the resort. We quickly learned not to make any other plans around three o’clock! It’s a small
touch, but one that makes the stay feel extra special.

Activities beyond the pools

Even if your kids somehow get tired of swimming, there is still plenty to do. Mövenpick BalaLand has large outdoor playgrounds, a fun little outdoor train, a Kids Club and an evening mini disco where children can dance and meet new friends. We also joined the Treasure Hunt, which encourages families to explore different parts of the resort while solving clues. It fits perfectly with the adventurous Around the World theme.

Parents… how long do you think your kids would last here? 😅 This is everything our kids managed to do in just 12 hours at BalaLand. Honestly, we got tired just trying to keep up 😂 #familytravel #travelwithkids #balaland #balaton #hungarytravel @movenpickbalaland_at @tjaash 👇 What’s the longest your kids have ever stayed awake on holiday?

Our Deluxe Junior Suite

Our Deluxe Junior Suite exceeded expectations. It was spacious enough that we never felt
cramped. The children had their own bunk-bed area, while the bathroom included both a
shower and a bathtub—always useful when travelling with kids. The large windows overlooking
Lake Balaton were another highlight and made the room feel even bigger.

Parents haven’t been forgotten

While the children explored the Fun Park or joined activities, we escaped to the rooftop sauna
area. Relaxing with panoramic views across Lake Balaton after a busy day was exactly what we
needed. It’s a lovely reminder that BalaLand isn’t just built for children—parents can enjoy their
holiday too.

EV-friendly travel

We travelled in our electric car, so finding on-site EV chargers was a pleasant surprise, not as our trip to Rab island in Croatia.. Charging overnight meant we didn’t have to think about finding a public charger before heading home, making the journey much more relaxed.

Final thoughts

Would we return? Absolutely. Mövenpick BalaLand Resort is much more than a hotel—it’s a
destination. Between the incredible indoor Fun Park, indoor and outdoor pools, themed dinners,
Chocolate Hour, Kids Club, playgrounds, treasure hunt and relaxing wellness area, there’s
enough to keep the whole family entertained for several days. If you’re looking for one of the
best family hotels near Lake Balaton or planning a family trip to Hungary, BalaLand deserves a
place at the top of your list.

And if your kids ask to stay another night… don’t be surprised. Ours did too. And honestly? We’ve completly understood why.
